History of an Apple
The apple is the pomaceous fruit of the apple tree. It
is one of the most widely cultivated tree fruit, and the most used by humans.
Apples grow on small, deciduous trees. The tree originated in central Asia.
Apples have been grow for thousands of years in Asia and Europe and were brought
to North America by European colonists.
There are many cultivars of apples that are bred for
various tastes and uses, including cooking, fresh eating and cider production.
Alexander the Great is credited with finding dwarfed apples in Kazakhstan in
Asia in 328 BC. Colonists brought apples to North American in the 17th century
and Reverand William Blaxton planted the first apple orchard on the North
American continent in Boston in 1625. In the 20th century, irrigation projects
in Eastern Washington began and allowed the development of the multibillion-dollar
fruit industry, of which the apple is the leading product.
